Firefox To Add Blunt Warning About Insecure HTTP Logins

The company is planning to pull this feature from its Nightly builds into the stable version of Firefox.

In the name of security, Firefox is planning to add more highly-visible warnings when users are about to enter sensitive credentials through an unsecure HTTP connection. The user experience designer for Mozilla Toronto, Ryan Feeley, tweeted a photo of the upcoming feature:

FIrefox HTTP Login Warning

Although firefox already warns users of unsecure connections, the new update is aimed directly at login forms, and makes warnings clearer and more visible. Current stable versions of firefox simply show a warning if users click the info button on the left side of the URL.

While some have claimed the update is a controversial method of advancing internet security literacy, others agree that the advantages for personal security and privacy far outweigh any negatives.
