LG Timepiece and Timepiece+ Release Date, Specifications and Rumours

LG might be the first to release a Wear OS device, with the potential release of their Timepiece and Timepiece+ smartwatches.

Since Google decided to rebrand Android Wear as Wear OS, many have been wondering when exactly a new Wear OS device will be released to the public and now it's looking as though that question has been answered by LG. Dubbed to be the "Timepiece" and "Timepiece+", the two new smartwatches from LG look as though they are going to feature the Wear OS, with some interesting differences in comparison to their Android Wear predecessors.

Unlike previous Android Wear devices, the LG Timepiece and Timepiece+ may feature a circular app list in a carousel format similar to the Samsung Gear-style range. Perhaps the base of Wear OS means we may see more of these type of app lists, as Samsung Gear has been built on Samsung's Tizen OS rather than Android Wear and has featured the carousel for quite a few iterations. Also, a rumour that surfaced at the end of April suggested that the Timepiece series would feature both a Wear OS smartwatch and physical watch hands from a typical analogue watch. This means we may be in store for a hybrid smartwatch with the ability to adjust the hands according to the application being used - e.g. using the hands as a pointer for a compass application. Unfortunately, other than a few interesting patents and design rumours, there isn't much to be said for the specifications of the device, but what can be gathered from sources is stated below for both devices.

LG Timepiece Specifications

Processor: Snapdragon Wear 2100
